24.7% of Haitians live in extreme poverty, on less than $1.25 per day. 59 percent of Haitians live on less than $2 a day.

The Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction is an ecumenical effort between the Amish, Mennonites, and other members of the local communities, who together are working toward helping people living in poverty gain education and employment skills, so that they can become self-sustainable, no longer needing outside help.
